Dr. Kristin Heeney, O.D.Dr. Kristin Heeney is a trained and experienced optometrist who maintains an active practice in Downtown Toronto, more specifically, King West Central. She completed her undergraduate studies and recieved her Doctor of Optometry from the University of Waterloo. She has received her certification for the treatment and management of ocular disease.

During her studies, Dr. Heeney completed an externship in ocular diseases and therapeutics at the Omni Eye Specialists, a leading centre in the treatment of cataracts, laser vision correction, pediatrics, retina diseases and glaucoma. At Omni Eye Specialists, she participated in advanced aspects of therapeutic eye care, including intravenous fluorescein angiography, corneal cultures, imaging (MRI/CT scans), management of ocular disease and assisting in ocular surgery.

Upon graduation from the University of Waterloo, Dr. Heeney joined the Master Eye Associates, in Austin, TX. Dr. Heeney practiced in Austin, TX for 4 years before returning to Canada in July 2001. Since returning to Toronto, Dr. Heeney was a consulting optometrist at LasikMD in Mississauga, Niagara Falls and Scarborough. And has been an associate with the Waterdown Optometric Clinic.

Dr. Heeney is a member of the Canadian Association of Optometrist, the College of Optometrists of Ontario, the Ontario Association of Optometrists and the American Optometric Association.

Dr. Heeney’s primary areas of interest are diseases of the eye, contact lenses, cataract and refractive surgery, and ocular health.

Associates

Dr. David Wilkinson has been part of our optometric practice since receiving his Doctor of Optometry from the Illinois College of Optometry in Chicago. He has been thrilled to return to his hometown to establish his optometric practice. In addition to Dr. Kristin Heeney’s office he can be found part time in Mississauga.

Upon completing his Bachelor of Science at the University of Waterloo, Dr. Wilkinson went to Chicago to study optometry at the Illinois College of Optometry. While in Chicago he spent significant time training in the co-management and therapy of patients with a variety of binocular vision disorders, and fitting specialty contact lenses for refractive, pathologic, and cosmetic purposes.

During an internship at the Eye Center of North Florida in Panama City, Dr Wilkinson participated in primary eye care including co-management of refractive, cataract, and oculo-plastic surgical patients, as well as many patients with age-related macular degeneration. Dr. Wilkinson’s studies also included internships at the Veteran’s Affairs Medical Centers in Cleveland and Detroit where he diagnosed and managed a variety of ocular diseases, especially glaucoma and diabetic retinopathy.

Dr. Wilkinson’s primary clinical interests include contact lenses, dry eye management, amblyopia “lazy eye” diagnosis and treatment, vision therapy, age-related macular degeneration prevention, and sports vision.

His professional memberships include the College of Optometrists of Ontario, the Ontario Association of Optometrists, the College of Optometrists in Vision Development, and the Sports Vision Section of the American Optometric Association.
