Built from the Ground Up
In 2002, Dr. Kristin Heeney opened the doors to Spadina Optometry in downtown Toronto — not as an associate, not as a franchise, but as a founder. Over two decades later, the independent practice she built from scratch continues to thrive.
A graduate of the University of Waterloo's Doctor of Optometry programme, Dr. Heeney completed an externship in ocular diseases and therapeutics at Omni Eye Specialists before gaining international clinical experience at Master Eye Associates in Austin, Texas. She also served as a consulting optometrist at LasikMD, managing refractive surgery patients through pre- and post-operative care.
She brought all of that experience back to Toronto and put it into her own practice. Today, she is a primary provider for dry eye care — utilizing meibography and TempSure Envi radiofrequency treatment — alongside advanced contact lens fitting for patients with presbyopia, irregular corneas, and complex visual needs. She is certified in the treatment and management of ocular disease.
Dr. Heeney serves on the Board of Directors of the Ontario Association of Optometrists and holds memberships in the Canadian Association of Optometrists, the College of Optometrists of Ontario, and the American Optometric Association. She presents at industry conferences — including NTE East and West 2022 and NTE 2025 for EyeRecommend — and has appeared as an expert on Slice TV's Dr. in the House and HGTV's Candice Olson's Divine Design. She is a vocal champion of mental health awareness in optometric practice.
