Orthokeratology
What is Ortho-K?
Ortho-K lenses are rigid gas permeable contact lenses that are worn overnight and allow for clear vision during waking hours without the need for spectacles or contact lenses. The lenses are meant to be worn every night and are specially designed for an individual’s corneal shape and prescription to temporarily reshape the front surface of the eye to provide clear vision. The corneal molding is completely reversible.

Ortho-K and Myopia Control
Ortho-K lenses are widely used for the purpose of slowing the progression of myopia. Ortho-K lenses can slow the progression of myopia by, on average 50% in children, compared to those wearing single vision spectacles or contact lenses. Studies such as CRAYON looked at children between 8-15 years old and compared the myopia control effects between ortho-k lenses and single vision soft contact lenses. Children who wore ortho-k lenses for 2 years had less axial length growth compared to their peers wearing single vision contact lenses.
